The EPPARG Board met on 9 July 2018 for a discussion on the latest market developments with EY and Fitch Ratings. Board Members also participated in a debate on social care hosted by the Equity Release Council and attended their summer reception.
The European Pensions and Property Asset Release Group led a discussion in Brussels amongst key EU institutional stakeholders, industry representatives, academics and representatives of the charity sector on ways to explore potential growth of home equity release across Europe.
The Group reviewed a study on equity release schemes in the EU from iff (institut für finanzdienstleistungen) of Hamburg and a new study on the potential growth of the equity release market in Europe prepared by the consultancy Towers Watson. The Group also heard presentations on the customer perspective from the Equity Release Council, on equity release pilots for low income home owners from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, and on housing equity and the needs of older people from the leaders of the EU-funded DEMHOW project on demographic change and housing wealth from the Netherlands and the UK.
The Group considered the findings of the studies and presentations and considered their implications for future development of the European market, to be further elaborated over the coming months..
